Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Rarely do we get generosity and high quality in the same year. However, the 2022 vintage gifted us with both! A warm dry summer with just enough rain to keep things humming along was followed by a very dry harvest season, with only one significant rain event. The wines have very good acidity, even better than the 2021's. The reds were uniformly healthy and we got to pick them at our leisure, so we could wait for just the right ripeness levels without worrying about weather events. We got our first wines from Live Edge this year and, while we don't expect the same level of complexity we get from the older vines at BAV, we were happy with the quality of the fruit.

Winemaker Notes
This wine is 80% from Live Edge Vineyards, and 20% from a block of vines at Black Ankle Vineyards. The Sauvignon Blanc is barrel-fermented to get a little more weight on the palate than stainless steel. It was on its lees for 7 months and stirred once a week, and went through malolactic fermentation. For this wine, and all of our grapes from Live Edge Vineyards this year, fermentations went unusually slowly. Whites are fermented cool, and usually takes a month or 5 weeks. The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc fermented from October through February! It never really did quite finish, which is why you get the residual sugar left. This Sauvignon Blanc has half a percent residual sugar, but is still considered dry.
