2021 Phyllite
Elegant, smooth, and refined, the 2021 Phyllite boasts dark fruit aromas supported by hints of lavender, violets, and rosemary. It is well-structured and balanced with smooth and silky tannins. Flavors of plum, ripe blackberries, vanilla and nutmeg are found from start to middle with a light tobacco finish. Drinking well now but will continue to improve with time.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
2021 was a gratifying year. Bud break came early. We were fortunate not to have been impacted by the frost which affected some of the other East Coast vineyards. Bud break was followed by a warm (but not too warm) summer filled with plenty of sunshine and just a little bit of rain when you would want it (but not when you didn’t) throughout the year, followed by a typical September with plenty of warm (but not too warm) sunshine, cool evenings, and little rainfall. The grapes were very healthy and picking went smoothly. This led to good yields that were just the right size.

Winemaker Notes
Estate-grown and sustainably grown on our 146-acre farm, our grapes are tended by hand multiple times throughout the growing season and are harvested by hand in the fall. After vinification and barrel aging for about 18 months (sometimes longer), we will sit down at the blending table to see what wines we can make. We will always strive to make our premium reds first; however, we are usually able to make our customer favorites as well in most vintage years. From our 2020 harvest we were able to make our Leaf-Stone as well as another Premium Syrah, our Phyllite, which is making its third appearance in our tasting room line-up.
