Pronounced: grew-ner velt-LEE-ner. Grüner Veltliner is a grape native to Austria that we have growing on 3 acres at Black Ankle. Grüner is known as a wine that can pair with even the most difficult foods (think asparagus and brussels sprouts). This wine has juicy, vibrant acidity, and fresh aromas and flavors that feature citrus, mineral notes, and pepper spice. It’s great with asparagus and creamy pasta dishes and everything in-between.
Color/Clarity: Clear, Medium Gold
Aroma: Lemon curd/citrus, mineral, pepper, stone fruit, green herbal note/cut flower stems, wet stone, honey
Palate: Citrus (lemon segueing to white grapefruit toward the back), stone, mineral, white nectarine, lemongrass, pepper. The acidity is bright and refreshing, vibrant and the finish is very long. Full mouth-feel, some creaminess in the texture; honeyed. Medium bodied, dry. It feels “bigger” than it is.
