Melissa Schulte has been overseeing the wine club at Black Ankle Vineyards since it began in early 2011, shepherding the growth of an extended family that got so big for awhile a couple years ago that interested members had to be put on a waiting list.

While the issue with inventory has been resolved, ditching the need for the waiting list and allowing the club to increase to its present 2,300 members, growth has come at a cost. Space inside the Mount Airy, Md., tasting room - which has been named to the dailymeal.com's list of top 101 U.S. wineries three straight years - has been at a premium, especially for a winery where more of the members stop by to pick up their wines than have them shipped.
