Friends of Project Rescate Fútbol Game
Join us on Saturday, September 11th for a fun-filled afternoon as we cheer on our vineyard crew and tasting room staff, Black Ankle style.
Project Rescate is a fundraising initiative to construct a sports & recreational center in our vineyard crew's home town of Acopinalco del Peñón, Tlaxcala, Mexico. Our overall goal for Phase One of this important project is $100K and in just a few short weeks, we have already raised just over $24K through the tasting room.
Our vineyard crew is primarily made up of dedicated and seriously impressive soccer players. We have an official Black Ankle Vineyards team, La Raza and Evencio, our vineyard manager, who also oversees recruiting of all our players – oops, we mean workers, played in a semi-pro league in Mexico until a serious injury ended his career. He is now the coach and team manager.
When we sit down each spring to figure out who we need for the vineyard in the coming season and he suggests someone new, there is usually a two-pronged reason – this guy is a good mechanic, oh, and an excellent defender, or this guy has great vineyard experience, oh, and he happens to also be a great striker. Since we are regularly impressed by the level of hard work, dedication and excellence that we see in our crew, we think this may be the secret to good recruiting.
What better way to support our vineyard crew's initiative to build a sports & recreation center in their home town than to have a ticketed fundraiser and silent auction centered around a friendly 30 minute fútbol match! Did we mention it's not just the crew that will be playing. To make two teams, we've asked tasting room staff to join in on the fun, too! Don't worry, the Vineyard Crew and Tasting Room staff will not be playing each other - instead, there will be a mix of each on both teams!

During the game, feel free to peruse the silent auction tent and swag options! Winners of the silent auction will be announced at 7:00pm during Members' Second Saturday.
